Running in a whirlwind!

Hello! Im back!

Its been a very busy week and a bit for myself. However, I have only put one run aside and will complete it today since it is no longer so windy theres roofs blowing off building!

Being a professional includes travel, which is fairly fun at times! I love my family however this is a great little chance to rebuild my energy. My DH and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at the Moose Jaw Temple Garden Spa. (http://www.templegardens.sk.ca/?gclid=CJWh_fOV8bACFSMCQAodCh26tg) It was a great relaxing weekend, we drank wine, ate good food, relaxed in and out of the pool. I came home feeling like a puddle of goo!! SUCCESS!!

I made my run Sunday night and packed my workout gear for a hotel workout on Monday. Everything went well on my trip till Tuesday evening. Vast thunderstorms and tornado warnings had the province up in arms. I was unable to get ahold of my destination hotel, and the world wide customer service said all was well.. I drove 131 kms to find out the whole city of 60,000 people were out of power and likely would for at least another 24 hours. So to get back to Regina from here is at minimum 3.5 hours.... 1.5 hours longer then I would have had to drive if someone would have had their information correct when I called....

So I drive.. and HIT the storm.. its pouring rain cannot see the road... and theres NO sign of it letting up any time soon. I had no cell service.. could send a few texts and that was challenge.... 5 hours later I made it home.....I think I`ll stay home for a while now!

Eating......

So.. All in all.. my run training is going well. Its a struggle to get in extra cross training being so busy with a family but my runs have all be completed consistently.

Eating.. this is my issue! I didn't realize how hard this was.. I mean I do and I get it but where is the ability to make this easier.
Kids WON'T eat vegetables as a meal... nor will husbands.. So this leaves me to making two meals.. which Im getting used to but on busy tiring weeks.. You faulter and eat what they are eating. This in turn takes a toll on everything.  One week of fantastic runs may get you further down the road.. but your not losing any fat.
I've been using MyPlate app to keep up on my food tracking, but even missing a day can take a toll on your body....

So whats the solution? I can only drink so many shakes. I found a great one but frick who loves milkshakes that much?!?? UGH! Im frustrated with this part of my world.. I like carbs.. but have cut alot of those out.. I rarely drink..

I guess I have to take another hour of my day and regiment myself. I find it so restricting to plan your days worth of food and only limit yourself to that.

Is there any solution to how to enjoy your food, not always eat salad and not count every calorie 24 hours a day when your tired, busy and working at it all?

Couch 2 5 Km Trainer!

Week 2 Day 2 - I started running a few weeks ago .. off and on. Not consistent, well for the last 2 weeks I have made every run. I downloaded the Couch 2 5 km  app on my iPhone to assist me in my training. http://www.c25k.com/ and well I LOVE IT! You put your ear phones in, get your music going and the little voice on the app tells you " start warm up walking for 5 minutes". Your moving out in the fresh air, feeling good and the little voice says " start running" ... HOW EASY IS THAT!??

When I was in university running my heart out, I would have to watch my mp3 player ( as long as it wasn't dead again) and watch the minutes go by as I ran them. This drove me nuts! I would be counting down in my head, telling myself I had to get through another 30 seconds or only 5 more minutes. This takes that all away, I just turn it on and RUN! I thoroughly enjoy the ease of this app.

I love the easiness of life, I have twins.. I'm a wife and work full time as well. I cannot make excuses if my phone reminds me its a run day.. or its time to track my food.. nor can I make excuses if it tells me to run ..... And so far I'm succeeding!

Dissappointment of a Fairy Tale

I was the little girl who hated scary movies, scary kings or queens or heck Gargamel even scared me for a short time. Me and a friend went to the new fairytale movie Snow White and the Huntsman and for the first time as an adult I found out what the fairy tale story was all about.

I have always watched glorified Disney movies and assumed those were the right stories, I mean why would you want to change the loving little dwarfs who take care of Snow White of her, the great dancing forest animals and all the love that becomes once her Prince comes to find her.

Well, now let me tell you.... the new age movie.. DEFINITELY not glorified! I thought it was enjoyable but I was slightly confused when this thing came into the picture.
( Found on Google Images... They are gods!)

Does this look like a troll to you!?! I may be ignorant to what trolls really look like, but I ASSUMED that they were little men who lived under bridges.... Not this monster.....

To say the least , I had a lot of questions. But then... we make it into the forest where everything is lush and beautiful to see this:

( Google Images again.. not proper citations but the links were huge)

So these are fairies.... they actually climb into animals bodies and that's how they get places. There's no pretty little wings... no nice lil tutu's .. Just these creepy little alien looking things that can push them into the breast of a bird.

The movie overall was good.. I'm just upset that I was so blinded to actual fairy tales...But All in All.. this is how I choose to remember Snow White.

Have a great day People! Remember... Fairy Tales are meant to make us all smile.. young old and the ignorant ;)

On a roll! Lets keep it going!

I was itching to run last night... ITCHING! But I thought well two days in a row my screw up my whole training this week. The reason I wanted to run.. I needed a little space....

My kids are great but as they are kids.. you don't often get a lot of time where you don't have " Mommy I want water" " Mommy come play with me" " Mommy ... Mommy .. Mommy!!!" So getting to run is a relief.. Ive come to notice that being married for 5 years and having twins.. being a PERSON outside of those titles is necessary. I haven't always thrived at that though.. So I'm committing to myself now!

The best advice I can give a new mommy is.. Don't LOSE YOU! If you loved to run before.. keep at it.. because when you stop.. it takes a huge tole on you.. self esteem changes after babies.. life completely turns upside down. So keep at YOU! If you don't, everything in your world will suffer, your marriage, your friendships, your ability to parent.

So instead of running, I threw out a comment on Twitter about needing new workouts.. I had some responses and found the Nike Training Club app. http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikewomen/language_tunnel/?change
FANTASTIC!!! This app is great! The couch talks to you and tells you when to start the next exercise. It is like a bootcamp class at home on your phone! I just sync'd it to the music, moved my kids toys out of the way in the toy room and went at it!
18 minutes of the 30 minutes and I thought I was done... dead .. mommys done! So I quit at that.. However.. a few weeks ago.. I likely wouldn't have gotten that far!

Moral of the story : Don't lose yourself... Challenge yourself to new levels.. All of this will make you a better person, mommy and wife!

My Beautiful Little Girls!
Cheers!

The start...

We all have to start somewhere... our first breath ... our first steps .. even our first day of school. Every moment of our life starts with a first. That being said.. Ive started running. I ran in university and was training for a 10 km program when I met my dear hubby. Well sometimes when one falls in loves and moves away from their current location, life catches up to them and their passions change to suit their current life style. The last 5 years of our world has been a roller coaster of a wedding, move across the province for a new job, becoming pregnant with twins, having twins, finishing university and starting a career.... As all of your mommys know.. Thats alot of life living in 5 years!
We are now back home, life is pretty much settled into place here. We are waiting on a home to sell back in the town we moved from but reletively we have settled.

I have started to run. I miss it.. I miss the challenges that running poses... I miss the summer sun on my back and the sweat on my forehead. I also miss the sore muscles and the excitment of breaking another kilometre or another minute.  So I started.. I booked myself into the Regina Road Race for September 29th of this year. I did my first run on Friday while my daughters were riding their bikes... let me tell you.... Ive never ran so fast in my life with these two. Those little legs get going and theres a hill.. and holy crap there they go! RUN MOMMY RUN! Nothing like a terrorized 3.5 yr old booking it down a incline on a bike.. they lose all sense of everything. But man does mommy get a work out!

I ran yesterday at the YMCA, calibrated my Nike + IPod trainer and it was a great run! I usually am not a treadmill lover, but it was a nice run followed by a upper body circuit! Then a hour in the pool with my family.

The reason I blog.. I have opinions.. life goals.. education .. and the desire to learn from others.. You will see me blog about life, being a mom, a runner and my passion in Restorative Justice.

Till next time.... Cheers and Hope all of you are well!
